Top 10 Non-Maroon 5 Adam Levine songs

Adam Levine's top 10 songs apart from Maroon 5 counted down

The sexiest man alive, Adam Levine, just recently celebrated his 37th birthday on Friday (March 18), and in honor of the man's 30-some successful years in the music industry, I thought I would compile a top 10 list of the best non-Maroon 5 songs by the birthday boy.

Levine is notoriously known for his commercially successful features in songs from Gym Class Heroes ("Stereo Hearts") and R. City ("Locked Away")–which appear on the list.

This list will feature songs that solely are performed by Adam Levine as solo artist (Begin Again, The Voice performances) and songs that feature Levine that have been published through major label distributions.

So, let's get to it.

10. "A Higher Place", Adam Levine

From the original motion picture soundtrack for the romantic-comedy Begin Again, one of the three Adam Levine performances, kick off the list. "A Higher Place" is an uptempo pop rock song written for the 2014 John Carney movie, which also features Adam Levine acting as Dave Kohl, a douchebag musician whose love interest is Kara Knightley.

09. "Somebody That I Used to Know (The Voice Performance)", Adam Levine & Christina Grimmie

It's finale week on NBC's The Voice and everybody is sure that Levine's contestant Christina Grimmie would be crowned "The Voice", which would have scored Adam his second seasonal win on the show since 2011. However, Grimmie fell to third place on finale night. I was personally disappointed and thought Grimmie had seaosn 6 in the bag. Levine and Grimmie's performance of Gotye's 2012 number-one hit single "Somebody That I Used to Know", featuring Kimbra, sticks out the most to me when it comes to Levine's The Voice performances. Levine's vocal prowess is strong and powerful throughout this performance.

08. "My Life", 50 Cent & Eminem featuring Adam Levine

One of the most underrated 50 Cent and Eminem collaborations, the alternative hip hop tune "My Life" was a creative, experimental pop track featuring a catchy, yet grimey chorus sung by Adam Levine. The song was a shot at some of 50 Cent's biggest hip hop rivals such as The Game and his former label. Eminem lends a lengthy, badass verse in the song which was highly praised, but it's Levine's vocal performance that's most memorable.

07. "No One Else Like You", Adam Levine

Another song taken from the motion picture soundtrack for Begin Again, "No One Else Like You" is a feely pop tune featuring acoustic guitars and amazing harmonies delivered by Levine.

06. "Heavy", PJ Morton featuring Adam Levine & James Valentine

So, it's Maroon 5 minus half the group, pretty much. In 2013, keyboardist PJ Morton gave a taste of his debut major label album New Orleans with his lead single "Heavy", a 70's funk track that features a crooning Adam Levine and a slique guitar solo from Maroon 5's James Valentine. The music video featured a heavy bearded Adam and pays homage to Jackson 5 music videos.

05. "Let It Be (The Voice Performance)", Adam Levine & Tessanne Chin

By far my favorite performance from Adam and any contestant from The Voice, the duo's live cover of The Beatles' 1969 hit single, "Let It Be", from the album of the same name, blows me away every single time I listen to it. I remember the somewhat controversial, outstanding performance on the show to this day and it was nothing short of phenomenal. The reggae-influence that tied in with the performance paved the way to Adam and Tessanne's seasonal win on season 5 in 2013.

04. "Locked Away", R. City featuring Adam Levine

"Locked Away" was easily one of the most popular hit singles from 2015 and definitely helped pave way to commercial success for the song's parent artist R. City. However, if it wasn't for Adam Levine's amazing vocal performance in the song, it would not have received as much radio airplay.

03. "Gotten", Slash & Adam Levine

One of the most haunting, yet distinguished songs taken from guitar legend Slash's eponymously named debut studio album, "Gotten" is one of Levine's most memorable performances from a non-Maroon 5 song ever released. A true rock song, the singer delivers a chillful, gloomy vocal performance which fit perfectly for Slash's ballady ways.

02. "Stereo Hearts", Gym Class Heroes & Adam Levine

Adam Levine took on hip hop with Kanye West in 2005 with his hit single "Heard 'Em Song", but it was Gym Class Heroes' "Stereo Hearts" that made Levine very memorable for conveying a poppy vocal in a hip hop track. "Stereo Hearts" was the lead single taken from Gym Class' comeback album, The Papercut Chronicles II, which dropped in 2011. Coinciding with Maroon 5's chart-topping hit "Moves Like Jagger", that hit and "Stereo" each rode the chart waves for almost half a year.

01. "Lost Stars", Adam Levine

"Lost Stars", arguably the best song taken from Begin Again's soundtrack album, was one of the most heartfelt performance Adam has ever delivered. A simple acoustic guitar and Levine's dreamy vocals can go a long way. "Lost Stars" was nominated for a 2015 Critic's Choice Award for Best Original Song, however lost to "Glory" by John Legend and Common, from the film Selma. The song was also performed numerous times throughout Maroon 5's 2015 world tour, which made fans go insane.

Maroon 5 named Greatest Adult Pop Artist of all time

Maroon 5 in 2016.
Maroon 5 earn the Greatest Adult Pop achievement by Billboard

It was revealed earlier today (Wednesday, March 16) that pop rock band Maroon 5 topped the greatest artists of all time in the adult pop region of the Billboard charts.

With hits ranging from "She Will Be Loved" to "One More Night", Maroon 5 has dominated the Adult Pop charts since its inception in 2001. Take a look at the post from Billboard magazine below:

With a record 11 No. 1s and 19 top 10s, as well as a record-tying 22 chart visits, Maroon 5 boasts the most impressive resume on Adult Pop Songs over the chart's first 20 years. The Adam Levine-led band first reached the chart on April 5, 2003, with the eventual No. 15-peaking "Harder to Breathe." The group would follow with its first two No. 1s, "This Love" and "She Will Be Loved," each of which ruled for 13 weeks in 2004. Maroon 5 most recently reigned with "Sugar," for three weeks in 2015. The group also sports the most cumulative weeks at No. 1, via its 11 leaders: 63. Matchbox Twenty follows with 54 total weeks on top.

10 bands that should tour with Maroon 5

From left to right: The 1975, Maroon 5, Panic! At the Disco.
10 musical acts that deserve to support on Maroon 5's tours

Previously, I posted an about the most popular and best supporting musical acts Maroon 5 has ever taken with them on tour. Now, I would like to shine light on 10 specific musical acts that should and could tour with the Los Angeles pop rockers in the future, whether it'd be this year or in the coming years, for God only knows how much longer Maroon 5 can tour worldwide every year.

In 2015 and 2016, Maroon 5 has brought reggae pop act MAGIC!, 222 Records signee Rozzi Crane, jazz-fusion group Dirty Loops, European heartthrob Nick Gardner, The Voice alum Matt McAndrew, chart topping artist Nick Jonas, Conrad Sewell, Foxley, and even Dashboard Confessional, as well as future opening acts Tove Lo, PHASES, and R. City with them on tour.

A typical Maroon 5 opening act back in the day was a musician or group who pursued a poppier rock sound (One Republic, Gavin DeGraw, Train, Bruno Mars), someone who could play multiple instruments on stage (Phantom Planet, Sara Bareilles), or performers who helmed an adult contemporary sound. Nowadays, Maroon 5 tours are typically pop, radio-friendly extravaganzas, with opening acts such as Kelly Clarkson, Owl City, Nick Jonas, or Neon Trees opening for them. Unpredictable, yet predictable.

Taking all of this into consideration, Maroon 5 have and could very much tour with a wide array of musical acts ranging from alternative to indie to dance-pop.

Let's get to the list. The list will not be in any order or ranking from worst to best or best to worst.

The 1975

A band of talented multi-instrumentalists that have been pursuing shoegazy, alternative rock music for over a decade, the England musicians in The 1975 could bring a perfect mix of pop and indie rock into a hyped performance prior to Maroon 5's poppy rock show. The group came onto the music scene with the release of four diverse EP albums: Facedown (2012), Sex (2012), Music for Cars (2013), and IV (2013), before finally hitting worldwide commercial success with their hit single "Chocolate", which lead to the bright, successful debut self-titled full-length in late 2013. Today, The 1975 just put out a colorful array of poppy indie rock hits on their second album I Like It When You Sleep For You're So Beautiful, Yet So Unaware Of It, which is currently the No. 1 album in the United States and Kingdom.

The 1975's most notable hits "Chocolate", the dancy "The Sound", and funky "Love Me" can easily make Maroon 5 fans dance in joy; ahead of a 1 hour 30 minute performance.

Panic! At the Disco

Straight oughta Las Vegas, the city that's known for partying and gambling, pop punkers Panic! At the Disco would be suitably great for being an opening act, or maybe even a co-headliner, for Maroon 5. Once known for helming a pop punk-esque baroque sound, with their first two major label releases A Fever You Can't Sweat Out (2005) and Pretty. Odd. (2008), Panic! probably wouldn't of fit well in Maroon 5 supporting line-up. However, nowadays, the moniker that musician Brendon Urie now has taken over as the sole member, pursues a more radio-friendly party pop sound. The latest record, Death of a Bachelor (2016) features many synthpop goodies along with dance-pop anthems such as "Victorious." From the band's previous studio effort Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! (2013), the hits "This Is Gospel" and "Girls/Girls/Boys" would go great in concert before Maroon 5 take the stage.

Bad Suns

A little fresh indie rock never hurt nobody. Similar to Maroon 5, California rockers Bad Suns are known for their powerful and energetic live performances and their power pop sound. The group has been compared to Maroon 5, sonically and The Cure, emotionally. They've only been a touring band since 2012 and definitely deserve some attention from arena-sized crowds.

Troye Sivan

Starting out as a popular YouTube star singing covers of his favorite pop songs and making comedy skits, Troye Mellet, better known as Troye Sivan, made a name for himself in the pop music world in 2015 with the release of his debut full-length Blue Neighborhood. The album, as well as the artist, showcases a perfect mix of dreamy indie pop and dance-rock. The synthpop-heavy songs "Fools" and "Wild" would be perfect live sentiments to perform before a Maroon 5 concert.

5 Seconds of Summer

Okay. Now here me out, older fans. I know 5 Seconds of Summer are probably unworthy of being on a Maroon 5 tour and are pretty much the edgier versions of One Direction, but the band's charismatic live performance have made the band an important staple in contemporary pop rock music. They play their instruments, write their songs, and also follow through with an energetic live show. Their most recent album Sounds Good Feels Good was a number-one hit album in late 2015 and spawned the hit pop punk-ish singles "She's Kinda Hot" and "Jet Black Heart." Plus, they would operate well in ticket sales for Maroon 5 and sell out arenas faster than you can say "hey everybody!"

The Script

This Irish band started out playing hard rock shows as kids and grew to be the pop rock superstars the world knows today. They aren't too heavily known on contemporary radio and also appeal to a more adult crowd, and would make for a great 30-some-minute live concert prior to Maroon 5's performance. Besides, who wouldn't want to hear "The Man Who Can't Moved" and "Breakeven" live?

The band achieved a multi-platinum hit single "Hall of Fame", with rapper will.i.am in 2012.

The Fray

I personally do not think The Fray have ever had the pleasure of sharing the stage, or a tour, with Maroon 5 in the past. Therefor, it's time that they get to it. The Fray, a manicured and polished pop rock band, are known for their heavy use of piano and guitar in their power pop, energetic songs. Their live shows have ranged to 2 and a half to 3 hours and, much like Maroon 5, sift from song to song live with interludes and jam sessions. Maroon 5 fans may recall The Fray's debut album, How to Save a Life (2005), (easily comparable to Songs About Jane) which spawned the hit single of the same name and "Over My Head (Cable Car)"; hits from 2005 and '06.

As far as my research went, dreamy-dance rock duo POWERS have only released one mini-LP since their recent formation, but their music is so diverse and deserving of an arena charged audience, and Maroon 5 could gift them with that. I compare POWERS to the band PHASES, the four-piece indie pop band that is opening for Maroon 5 later this year, who are also very deserving, however PHASES has that advantage because of guitarist James Valentine's tie-in with the band from formerly being in it.

No Doubt / Gwen Stefani

Okay, this needs to happen already. No Doubt has been a band for a tad bit longer than Maroon 5 have been and have definitely achieved radio success worldwide longer, but a co-headlining No Doubt and Maroon 5 tour would be badass as hell. Two very monumental pop rock groups (with ska influences) touring the world together would shatter Ticketmaster and everybody would go to this tour, without a doubt. No Doubt's history of precise pop rock and reggae rock make for a greatly polished hour long show.

And if we can't get a No Doubt co-headliner, at least we can hope for Gwen Stefani as an opening act. Stefani's solo career has proven that the multi-genre slayer can sing almost any kind of song from rock, metal, or reggae to pop, funk, or disco. Stefani is hot on her heels with her upcoming, long-awaited comeback solo album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like, which drops March 18. Her recent poppier hits like "Make Me Love You" and "Misery" would make for a great live performance, as well as her classic hits "The Sweet Escape" or "Hollaback Girl." And hey, maybe we could get a "My Heart Is Open" live performance.

This show be mind-blowingly different for fans to witness before Maroon 5 take the stage. Originally an a capella group, the five-piece group would showcase a performance unlike any other typical pop concert using mainly their mouths and hardly any instrumentation. But this just isn't any average a capella group of vocalists, this is Pentatonix. This band just achieved commercial success recently with their debut major label self-titled album (2015). Known for covering other versions of pop hits, the band has covered Maroon 5 in the past, as well as Justin Bieber's "Where Are U Now?" and OMI's "Cheerleader."

The Voice coaches panel for season 10.
Coach Adam is staying for good, despite recent rumors

Quickly following the news of Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and wife, Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo, expecting their first child together later this year, rumors surfaced the Internet, originating from TMZ and HollywoodLife, that Levine would be stepping off of the coaching panel on NBC's The Voice to pursue fatherhood full-time.

After a full day of unsettling rumors, an insider whom is a friend of Levine's had confirmed that he will not be quitting The Voice this year. “Adam would stay with The Voice and will stay with The Voice even if he becomes a father,” the insider told new outlet Us Weekly. "The amount of time he would have to be away really wouldn’t be that much. He could easily do both. The Voice schedule would offer no neglect to family duties and he would be able to do it because The Voice would be accommodating to all of his needs. They would all be able to work out a proper schedule to make it all work out."

The Voice recently returned with its 10th season last week on NBC with coaches Adam, Pharrell, Christina, and Blake. The Battle Rounds are expected to start this Monday at 8/7c.

The Voice Recap: Say hello to Team Adam

Adam Levine's team features 11 outstanding artists for season 10

The first two weeks of the tenth season of The Voice are over, which means the blind auditions are a thing of the past as next week we move onto the battle rounds, where contestants sing two different songs in the ring to compete for their coaches to pick them to continue through the competition.

As the blind auditions come to a close, let's take a quick look at #TeamAdam for season 10. Here we go!

Caroline Burns

Hollis, New Hampshire singer-songwriter Caroline Burns was fourth contestant on night 2 of the Blind Auditions, performing "So Far Away", a 1971 single by Carole King. Burns quickly caught coach Adam's attention while coach Blake turned at the last second, being the only two coaches to hit their button. She auditioned in season 9 last year, however failed to catch any of the coaches' attention, but upon her return, she ultimately chose to be on Team Adam.

Mike Schiavo

Mike Schiavo from Colonia, New Jersey was Adam's first contestant of the season to join his team. Schiavo auditioned with "Talking Body", originally by pop star Tove Lo. Coaches Pharrell and Blake also turned for Schiavo, but he ultimately went for Team Adam.

John Gilman

From Bayville, New Jersey, contestant John Gilman performed his own rendition of Elvis Presley's "Don't Be Cruel" on the show. Coach Adam was the only one to turn around, therefor by default, Gilman joined Team Adam.

Laith Al-Saadi

Laith Al-Saadi, reigning from Ann Arbor, Michigan, performed The Box Tops hit single "The Letter", which caught the attention of both Adam and Blake. Laith ultimately joined Team Adam.

Katherine Ho

Performing "Wildest Dreams", one of the many hit singles from Taylor Swift's latest album 1989, contestant Katherine Ho had Adam and Blake turn their chairs for her. Ho chose to be apart of Team Adam.

Natalie Yacovazzi

Natalie Yacovazzi, originating from Chicago, Illinois, auditioned with a performance of Kelly Clarkson's single "Mr. Know It All", after trying out on season 9. Coach Adam was the only one to turn his chair, thus Yacovazzi by default joined Team Adam.

Nathan Butler

Coach Adam recruited yet another New Jersey resident, contestant Nate Butler, after he performed "The Walk", originally by The Cure. Coaches Pharrell and Blake also turned their chairs, however Butler ultimately chose to be on Team Adam.

Ryan Quinn

Ryan Quinn, from Westmoreland, New York, performed "Can't Find My Way Home", by Blind Faith, for his audition. All four coaches turned for Quinn, but he chose to be apart of Team Adam after a lengthy decision.

Owen Danoff

Owen Danoff, originally from Washington D.C., performed the Bob Dylan classic "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right", for his audition and caught all four coaches attention. After a hard decision, Danoff chose Team Adam.

Lily Green

A contestant from Brooklyn, New York, Lily Green performed "Songbird", which caught coach Adam's attention, being the only coach to turn, and by default Green became apart of Team Adam.

Matthew Tedder

Matt Tedder, from Fort Worth, Texas, auditioned with a performance of Muddy Waters' "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man." Coach Adam was the only coach to turn for Tedder, therefor by default, he joined Team Adam.
