Top 5 Best Musicians to Replace Adam Levine on 'The Voice'

Adam and Ryan Tedder on The Voice's fifth season.
If Adam Levine's ever out, who should fill his shoes?

NBC's network-saving reality television show The Voice has seen various changed its coach line-up over the past four years of it's existence. In 2011, the series premiered in the States with the original coach panel being Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, and Blake Shelton. However, in early 2013, the show saw a new line-up change on the coaches panel with Usher and Shakira replacing Cee Lo and Christina for season 4. Then when the next season came along, Cee Lo and Christina were back on. And THEN season 6 saw the return of Usher and Shakira. Season 7 became one of the most talked about seasons yet when fresh faces Pharrell Williams and No Doubt front-women Gwen Stefani replaced Usher and Shak's red chairs. Now, its season 8 and we are seeing a rather wonky line-up of Adam, Pharrell, Christina, and Blake. We're looking forward to the change, however some fans aren't too fond of Xtina's return (or maybe they just really loved Gwen's presence).

But I was sitting here wondering, what if Adam Levine, arguably the best coach that the show has ever had the pleasance of having, ever decided to quit or leave temporarily (even though Levine has stated numerous times he'd never take a break, he'd rather quit and not be replaced)? Well, I came up with 5 musicians who I would definitely recommend to replace Levine's spot.

Here we go.

5. Robin Thicke

Not a lot of people are a fan of R&B crooner Robin Thicke due to his recent controversy with "Blurred Lines", and his awkward Paula era. But as an actually talented person and a wise man when it comes to songwriting and production, Thicke could be a very worthy coach/judge for The Voice to have. Maybe for a season or two, at least. Thicke is most prominently known for his rise to fame with the release of his 2013 disco-driven album Blurred Lines and the singles it pushed out. Thicke actually toured with Maroon 5 in early 2014 on their European run on the Overexposed Tour. So, it wouldn't be too far out of the ball park for Robin to fill Adam's coaching shoes.

4. Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy

Patrick Stump, in my opinion, has one of the best voices of our generation. He's the lead singer of one of the biggest bands in pop music at the moment (vocalist for Fall Out Boy), and he's one of the most talented men in pop punk. Stump has a brief history on The Voice's run: During season 7, he was a mentor for Adam Levine's team during the Live Playoffs and Fall Out Boy has rocked the stage twice performing their hits "Centuries" and "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light 'Em Up)." Stump is also a very sophisticated musician. He can play guitar and every other instrument in the book and his #1 passion is: music. And that's what's important for the show, amiright?

3. Justin Timberlake

Now, I know this is a long shot. The biggest pop star in the entire world, Justin Timberlake, is the busiest man in show business and he has better things to do (and to get paid for) than to sit around for 5 months and to teach amateurs how to sing and perform and such. However, Timberlake's talent and performance ability is so off-the-charts that if he ever shared his wisdom on the show as a coach on the panel, he'd probably win. Probably? He will win. Unlike the previous two musicians I listed above, Timberlake hasn't contributed to show as a mentor or anything, really. For all we know, he probably has never watched the show before. But hey, if he was ever on the show, even for one season, he'd do the show some good and boost it's seemingly recent low-ratings.

2. Pat Monahan of Train

Frontman of pop-folk-rock group Train, Pat Monahane, is a very experienced man when it comes to the art that is music. And he has been in the music business since he was nearly 20 years old. His band, Train, is one of the most successful rock bands in modern rock and has a unique enough voice to lend the show. Unsure of the rating the show would get if Monahane ever replaced Levine, the "Hey, Soul Sister" singer would definitely have more wisdom than most singers to give to the contestants no matter what stage of the season.

1. Ryan Tedder of One Republic

This man is a genius when it comes to anything, really, and that is why he is my #1 pick for this specific countdown. Mister Ryan Tedder, frontman of the multi-platinum pop rock outfit One Republic, is known for his skillful songwriting, gifted production talent, and his euphoric singing voice. He's has an amazing history with The Voice and has even worked with Adam and his team on a number of occasions. He was a mentor for Levine and his team throughout Season 5 and One Republic has performed on The Voice 2 or 3 times (not sure of the exact number). But I do know that One Republic gave a killer performance of my favorite song from last year, "Love Runs Out", on the show's sixth season.

So what do you think of this countdown? Do you agree with my #1 choice? Who do you think should replace Adam's red seat when the time comes? Share with us in the comments OR on Twitter @M5NewsRoom!

Rumor Mill: Maroon 5, Gwen Stefani May Perform at The Grammy's

Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani in 2014.
Rumor has it Maroon 5 will take the stage with Stefani at The GRAMMY's

Rumors are fun except for the fact that they are not always true.

Earlier today on various social media outlets, fans and music blogs posted news that pop rock group Maroon 5 would possibly be taking the stage at this year's Grammy Awards ceremony with No Doubt front-women Gwen Stefani to perform their collabo-hit "My Heart Is Open" live on stage.

How did the rumor start?: Well, a post made by an anonymous taper was posted on the Internet earlier this week of an unreleased commercial for this year's Grammy Awards, which featured hype of Ed Sheeran, Madonna, and many more performing at the ceremony. And one of the previews was stating that "Adam Levine with Gwen Stefani" will be one of the featured performers. Ever since the post was made, fans have been assuming the news was true, therefor Tweeting out things like...

Also, a music blog named Ultimate Music posted an article confirming the list of performers for the Grammy Award's, thus far, listing Adam Levine + Gwen Stefani as one of them, and Rihanna being the only "rumoured" one on the list.

The rumors began following the exciting news of Adam Levine performing "Lost Stars" at the Oscars which will take place on the evening of February 22nd. Read more news on that here.

Maroon 5 last performed at The Grammy's in 2013 when they performed "Daylight" on stage alongside recording artist Alicia Keys.

The GRAMMY's are set to air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles at 8:00/7:00pm CPT only on CBS!

James Valentine Announces Departure With JJAMZ

JJAMZ in 2012.
The Maroon 5 guitarist confirmed he is parting ways the his indie side project, JJAMZ
Despite his brief and hasty participation in JJAMZ's forthcoming studio album, Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine confirmed that he is indeed parting ways with the indie pop band.

After Valentine was interviewed by guitar magazine Premier Guitar yesterday (Wed, Jan. 21) online where fans asked the guitarist and JJAMZ co-founder questions about his life and career, a few fans were eager to ask when Valentine and the rest of JJAMZ were releasing new material.

Here's Valentine's response to the JJAMZ concerns:
The new album is being mixed now and will be coming out on Warner Brothers in 2015. It is being produced by the great Mike Elizondo, who Maroon also had the pleasure of working with on It Won’t Be Soon Before Long. Unfortunately, I am not as involved this time around, as my Maroon 5 duties took over this past year. You could say it’s just JAMZ now. (JJAMZ stands for Jason, James, Alex, Michael and Z—the band’s members). But I still co-wrote a few of the songs and played on a few tracks. It started out as a side project for all of us, but as everyone else’s bands broke up, it’s grown up into a real band. I’m real proud of them.

As confirmed above, Valentine took a minor part in playing guitar and co-writing for the upcoming JJAMZ effort, however will not be touring or supporting the album with the rest of the band in 2015.

JJAMZ formed in late 2009 with members Jason Boesel of Rilo Kiley, Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet, Michael Runion, and Z Berg of The Like, and later James Valentine in 2011. The Los Angeles indie quintet released their major label debut album Suicide Pact in July of 2012 through Dangerbird Recordings. The band is expected to drop their Suicide Pact follow-up sometime this summer on Warner Bros.

Highlights from Maroon 5 Manager Jordan Feldstein's Interview With Billboard Magazine

Photo of Maroon 5 with manager Jordan Feldstein.
Maroon 5 and Adam Levine manager spoke up about his relations with the band & Sara Bareilles

A recent interview was published by Billboard magazine earlier this week of Maroon 5 and Adam Levine manager Jordan Feldstein, as he spoke about the band, his relations with the frontman and Sara Bareilles, his life long career, and when he first heard the Maroon 5 song that aspired his wanting to be the band's soon-to-be longtime manager.

We dug out some of the worthy highlights from the lengthy interview that mainly surround the topics of Maroon 5 and Adam Levine. Check them out below.

Feldstein on Kara's Flowers and hearing Maroon 5's first demo:
Adam, who I'd known forever, invited me to the studio. Of course, he was two hours late so I sat with the engineer who played me a song called "Not Coming Home" and I was, like, "Holy shit!" To be honest, I never liked Adam's previous band, Kara's Flowers, which was this white, poppy, punky kind of thing. But when I heard what ended up becoming Songs About Jane, it had a distinct urban influence that really spoke to me.

Feldstein on becoming Maroon 5's manager:
I started pursuing them. They were rightfully scared of having a 21-year-old just out of college as their manager but I kept setting things up, taking care of them, taking them to meals -- which, at that point, going to Houston's was a big deal. Eventually I convinced them. Then, we started shopping the band... doing showcase after showcase, but no one bit. Finally Octone signed them. I think I made $3,000 on that deal.

Feldstein on Adam Levine's songwriting and Maroon 5's recent albums:
Here's the problem: Adam is so busy. The fact that we shot [Begin Again] is a f--ing miracle. Him sitting in the room writing with band members is not going to work. Also, I think the band realized that having outside songwriters takes pressure off, because for Adam, writing all the lyrics on an album was a very stressful process. Finally, I think you come to a point in your life where you're like, "I'm not 20 and I may not know how to write songs for teenagers anymore."

Feldstein on Adam Levine's future in acting:
When he has time and it's the right thing. We're not just taking whatever comes across our desk. We're trying to figure out if there is a supporting role in a comedy because the dude is really funny.

Feldstein on Adam's role as coach on NBC's The Voice:
He loves doing it. And there is so much good that has come out of The Voice. NBC got him to host Saturday Night Live, present at the Golden Globes. We have a production company at NBC... They've done things for him that have been really rewarding from a business perspective. And obviously the money doesn't hurt.

Feldstein on parting ways with Sara Bareilles:
No one likes to get fired. It's not a fun experience. [Losing] Sara Bareilles -- someone I was with when she was playing little clubs in Westwood -- hurt. Sometimes it's not the right fit though, particularly with me, because I like to speak my mind. You get an honest opinion from me and a lot of people in this business don't want that.

Maroon 5 debut in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Sugar"

It was announced earlier today (Wed, January 21) upon the revealing of the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 that pop rock act Maroon 5 has debuted at number 8 this week on the tally.

"Sugar", the third single from Maroon 5's latest studio album V, follows-up the band's previous top 10 singles "Animals" and "Maps", each released during the later parts of last year. "Sugar" serves as the band's 11th top-ten hit single on the Billboard Hot 100 and is also presented as the band's 8th top-ten hit in a row (ever since "Moves Like Jagger" charted on the Hot 100's top 10 in September 2011).

Maroon 5 premiered the wedding-crasher music video for the single "Sugar" last week on their official YouTube and Vevo channels and has garnered over 30 million views to date. Earlier today, the band also dropped a fan made music video for the single on Buzzfeed.

Maroon 5 premiere new "Sugar" music video starring their fans

Maroon 5 dropped the follow-up to their wedding-crashing video for "Sugar" earlier today (Wed, Jan. 21) with yet another video for the new single, and this time, featuring footage of their fans.

Last month, Maroon 5 and their management teamed up with JamCam, the music app, to ask fans to send in small clips of them lip-syncing to the Maroon 5 disco tune to be apart of the project.

Back in December of 2012, the band did a similar Internet campaign titled The Daylight Project in which fans sent in videos of them singing and dancing to their single, "Daylight", from the album Overexposed. You can watch that music video right here.

Not Everything About the New Maroon 5 Video Is Fake

A screenshot of Adam Levine in the "Sugar" video.
The footage behind Maroon 5's "Sugar" video is being deemed "fake" and "staged"

If you're social media savvy and keep tabs on Maroon 5 and Adam Levine, there's no denying that you've seen a headline (or twelve) about the new music video for "Sugar" being staged and faked.

Last week, upon the music video's premiere online, the video's director David Dobkin talked with press over at VH1 and Vh1 Online about the story and shooting behind the exciting video, and proves that not all of it was staged or "pre-thought" out.

Dobkin on approaching Adam with the "Sugar" plot:
We were bouncing around some ideas and I knew I wanted it to be about his connection with his audience. That was important. I wanted elements of real people and L.A., a hometown thing with driving and a lot of movement and some dancing. Then the idea came up of, what if they went to real weddings and showed up as the surprise wedding band? He loved that idea. And look, for 10 years everyone asks me to do something related to that movie. (laughter) I’ve never wanted to go back there, just because it’s something that worked so well. But we locked in on this idea and thought it would be great. And then it was like, holy shit, how do we pull this off?

Dobkin on who knew about the surprise Maroon 5 appearances:

It was pretty intense. I was like, nobody can know, but then I realized, one person is going to have to know. I didn’t want the brides to know so we talked to the grooms. Until the week before, the groom didn’t even know who the band was.  We said, this is a Grammy award winning top 10 band. We’re coming to your wedding and here’s how it’s going to work. I realized there had to be a reveal. That moment of recognition, that’s the juice. So I need them to be behind a curtain and the curtain drops and it reveals them. I had to design and build this thing that was like a pop-up tent and then you could press a button and the curtain drops. It sounds simple but it took us the better part of a month to figure it out. It was just a nightmare. Then I got to all the wedding planners around L.A. and had to go to all the venues to see how we could infiltrate them without anyone knowing. There was only going to be a 20 minute window for us to sneak in, pop up the tent, and get the band in without anyone noticing them. I had 6 cameras set up and dressed as if they were in the wedding. You really only have one shot at this. It ended up being 7 or 8 weddings, all in one day, some day, some night.

Dobkin on working with Adam and Maroon 5:

This is the most fun I have ever had on anything, ever, as a filmmaker. Part of it was working with Adam and part of it was because it was a ballsy concept and it paid off. I really love surprises. I always loved working on music videos actually. I did a lot of the videos back in the early part of my career but this is the first one I’ve done in over 15 years.  I’m a musician and I love music and I would love to do more of them.

Top 4 Most Controversial Maroon 5 Music Videos

Stills from "Sugar" (left) and "Animals."
The Top 4 most talked about and controversial Maroon 5 MV's counted down

Maroon 5 has released 25 music videos over the past decade and a half and it's easy to say that a good majority of them are definitely ones you will walk away either astonished or amazed. From the underrated cuts such as "Goodnight Goodnight", "Give a Little More", and "Hands All Over" to some of the most viewed videos in pop culture such as the cop-chasing video for "Payphone" and the steamy and bloody video for "Animals", Maroon 5 is known for dropping a trending topic on the world with a single release of a video.

With the recent news about the band's newest music video for "Sugar", a disco-pop-funk tune similar to that of Prince's hits and other late 70's disco anthems, and the controversy behind it, I was inspired to make a list of the top 4 most controversial and most-talked about Maroon 5 music videos of all time.

Here we go.

4. "This Love", from the album Songs About Jane (2002), directed by Sophie Muller

Just as Maroon 5 was becoming a well known name in pop culture and on top-forty radio, the guys released the steamy and playful music video for the Songs About Jane cut, "This Love", the second single following the L.A. group's debut hit "Harder to Breathe." "This Love" blew the band up in terms of success and the music video is most definitely, to date, one of the band's more sexual videos. The video's director Sophie Muller, who also directed and co-wrote the treatment for the smash hit "She Will Be Loved", came up with the idea of frontman Adam Levine making love in silky sheets in the video with his IRL girlfriend, at the time, Kelly McKee, who was more than happy to join Levine in "a few intimate scenes." But the video wasn't all that praised and liked by critics, in fact, editor Sylvia Patterson of The Daily Telegraph described the video as a "pornographic pop video" that shouldn't show itself on video channels such as MTV or Palladia. But "This Love" was just the beginning of the long train of controversial Maroon 5 videos.

3. "Moves Like Jagger", from Hands All Over (2011), directed by Jonas Åkerlund

2011's hottest music video "Moves Like Jagger" was incredibly sexy and goofy to say the least. However, not everyone enjoyed looking at Adam's hot, tattoo-covered upper torso or Aguilera's sleak appearance. Some critics judged the video for it's shallow and inappropriate appreciation for the Rolling Stones frontman, Mick Jagger, thinking that Maroon 5 and the team behind the video were pushing for more sex appeal (nip slips and sexy dancing) rather than displaying the idea and legend of Jagger. Note that the song was a turning point in Maroon 5's career and was considered risky business for the band, for it was the first record that the band had worked with outside producers and writers, and also pushed Maroon 5 towards a more dance-pop and radio-friendly sound following the release of their funk-and-soul inspired third studio effort, Hands All Over, which was considered "a flop" to some. In the video's defense, it showed much archival footage of Jagger's career being in the Stones and performing.

2. "Sugar", from V (2014), directed by David Dobkin

Ah, now we're onto everyone's favorite disco tune of 2015. "Sugar" is currently serving as Maroon 5's third radio hit from their recent studio album, V, which dropped last September. The music video follows-up the controversial video for "Animals", which we'll get to later on in the countdown. Anyways, "Sugar" is one of Maroon 5's more laid-back and fun music videos that simply puts a smile on your face. The music video features the band driving around Los Angeles crashing weddings and wedding receptions with a sneaky performance of "Sugar." Now, the first few days of the video's premiere garnered the attention positively from music and wedding lovers alike. However, a week following the video's surfacing online, some people skeptisized the video's reality and didn't believe that Adam Levine and co. were really crashing weddings. In fact, gossip website Cosmopolitan wrote an entire lengthy article debunking the plot behind The Wedding Crashers-themed video. The article points out that their are, in fact, some actors and semi-famous people "planted" throughout the different weddings in the video. The article actually points out that former America's Next Top Model alum Raina Hein was hired to be a bride in the video and was told to "act surprised" whilst Maroon 5 performing the hit after the dropping of the curtain. Other low-key actors were exposed in the video including Eric Satterberg, Nico Evers-Swindell and wife Megan Ferguson. But fans don't seem to mind the controversy. At all. Some fans simply enjoy the video for the joy and smiles it brings to people's faces. The video will most definitely make you wish "wow, I want Maroon 5 to crash my wedding!"

1. "Animals", from V (2014), directed by Samuel Bayer

Where do we begin with the ever so gruesome and stalker-ish video for "Animals"? People claimed Maroon 5 was praising the idea of stalker-y relationships, glamorizing sexual abuse and violence, and even dehumanizing women. The video stars Levine and his real life wife and Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo as the leading lady who is presumably stalked by Adam throughout the video and is shown following her down streets and alleyways, standing outside her house with a camera in the pouring rain, and shuffling through photos of her in a red room as if Levine were some slick detective. The video even sparked some controversy with animal cruelty groups due to scenes in the video including Adam swinging from meet and pouring buckets of blood on him (and his lover). The Guardian wrote an entire article depicting the "terrifying" video naming the video "How to Terrify Women." The Independent also wrote a controversial article about the video, freaking out over the fact that Levine is seen "breaking into a women's home and lying next to her while she is sleeping in her bed."

Do you agree with our countdown of the most controversial music video by Maroon 5? What videos do you think are the most controversial or shouldn't be deemed controversial or bad at all? Share with us on Twitter @m5NewsRoom!

5 Things to Expect For Maroon 5's Sugar Music Video

The official "Sugar" single cover.
5 things we can expect from Maroon 5's new music video for "Sugar"

We don't know exactly when, but it's coming.

The new music video from Maroon 5 for their single "Sugar" is sure to be a topic for conversation on Twitter and Tumblr for weeks and weeks to come, however, provably won't be as much of a hot-button issue topic like the "Animals" video was, attracting the attention of sexual assault groups worldwide. For what we expect from the "Sugar" video is no blood or sex scenes (that we know of) at all. But, here's what we do already know.

Here's a list of 5 things we can expect from the Maroon 5 "Sugar" music video.

5. Maroon 5 guys dressed dapper in suits

In early December, we began seeing first looks through leaked photos from news outlets of the new music video for "Sugar." Some photos demonstrated all of the band members, and I mean ALL of the members, dressed dapper in fancy suits and bow ties. Levine especially looking rather dashing in his tight suit and sunglasses. Other photos that leaked last month portrayed the band standing or sitting in a fancy car, in which we later found out Adam would be driving in the music video.

4. Adam's notorious driving

Further down the line, outlets such as Entertainment Tonight and JustJared proved to us and fans that Adam and the guys were for surely driving in the music video. Up and down the streets of Los Angeles, we'll be seeing Adam taking the wheel whilst guitarist James Valentine, bassist Mickey Madden, and guitarist Jesse Carmichael sitting backseat and shotgun. But how many times have we seen Levine driving in Maroon 5 videos? Lots. He's seen driving in "She Will Be Loved" and "Wake Up Call." Then years later, we see him carjacking rapper Wiz Khalifa's car from in front of a fancy 5 star hotel and later demolishes it running from the L.A. police. Don't forget that scene in "Maps" when he drunkenly drives up to the hospital.

3. Maroon 5 to turn into a wedding-crasher squad

So, a rather awesome clip showed up online a few weeks ago of the band making a surprise appearance at someone's actual wedding reception to which a giant sheet hid them and later was pulled away, revealing the band performing the new song "Sugar" to a room full of the family and the friends of the newly wedded couple. Amazing. Watch the clip here. We are surely expecting to see it in the new video.

2. A sexy performance

Along with Maroon 5's surprise performance from the wedding reception they ACTUALLY crashed for the music video, there may be a special performance from the band seperetly in the video, to which we hope will display them ever-so-perfectly in their suits and ties.

1. Lots of celebration

Confetti. Food. Screaming. Singing. And some wedding cake. Expect it.

All we know is that the music video is more than likely going to premiere online on YouTube and Vevo sometime by the end of January or at the latest, in early February. The music video's director has yet to be known.

Maroon 5 Named 'Biggest Band of the Millenium'

Maroon 5's long list of achievements have not gone unnoticed

As posted on Ryan Seacrest's official radio website, 2014 saw many bands reach milestones, but only one can now lay claim to being the biggest group of the entire millennium after what they achieved this year.

When Maroon 5’s “Animals” landed at #1 on AT40 earlier this month they became the only group with seven #1s in this century. And on the all-time list they now only trail The Beatles, The Supremes and The Rolling Stones for the most chart toppers.

Maroon 5 Display 'Sugar' Live For the First Time At Mandalay Bay

Maroon 5 performing.
Maroon 5 performed their new hit "Sugar" for the first time in Las Vegas

It's definitely a Happy New Year, after all.

Maroon 5 performed their annual two-night stint New Year shows at the Mandalay Bay Casino and Events Center in Las Vegas on December 30 and 31 and performed lengthy set lists for each show. The band rehearsed for the two shows earlier last month and contemplated on performing their forthcoming V hit "Sugar" live on stage, but ended up going through with the plan to display it to the concert-goers.

"Sugar" is the Los Angeles pop rockers' next big hit, following "Animals", which has enjoyed multi-platinum success over the last few months in the U.S., U.K., and in Canada peaking atop the Pop and Digital Songs charts and dominating top 40 radio, accompanied with it's "controversial" music video which offended sexual assault groups worldwide, but more importantly garnered millions of new fans and listeners. Speaking of music videos, the "Sugar" video has been under development since early December and is currently set to premiere in late January or early February of this year.
