James Valentine Says New Album Could Be Out as 'Early as 2014'

The Maroon 5 guitarist says the band's Overexposed follow-up record could come out "as early as 2014"

In a recent interview with Billboard magazine, Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine spilled news about the Los Angeles pop rock group's progress on their planned fifth studio album.

When asked about keyboardist Jesse Carmichael's return to the band he said:

"We figured that was the most simple way to do it," Valentine explains. "It's an unusual sort of thing, I guess, but there's no clear rules as to how to do that. I think it's completely understandable he wanted to get off the carousel for a second, but I do get the impression that he's eager to get back and it's safe to say that the album will be out as soon as next year."

Maroon 5 Announce 'Early Stages' of New Album

Maroon 5 confirm that they are in the 'early stages' of recording their Overexposed follow up

Though the band is still touring to promote 2012's platinum "Overexposed," Maroon 5 is already at work on its follow-up, according to guitarist James Valentine.

"It's still sort of in the early stages," Valentine tells Billboard. "We definitely have a couple of amazing songs that will be on the record. I think we just really like making music now, and I think we're more prolific than ever. But at the same time it's going to be awhile before the record comes out, so maybe some of the stuff we're doing now will fall by the wayside by the time we actually put it out. But we've got some great stuff started, and we're all very excited."

A sense of direction for the album has yet to be defined, however.

"I thought I had a handle on that, but it kind of keeps changing," Valentine says with a laugh. "There was a first batch of songs that seemed like they were darker and maybe a little more organic-sounding, but now there's some other songs that... it's hard to describe, and I think we're going to really find out where it's going in the next few months."

Valentine confirms that keyboardist Jesse Carmichael, who took a sabbatical during the "Overexposed" cycle, will be back on board for Maroon 5's next endeavor, though he won't be returning to the road until that album is released.

Maroon 5 is also in prep mode for the Honda Civic Tour, which kicks off Aug. 1 in St. Louis, Mo., with Kelly Clarkson and rotating opening acts -- including Tony Lucca, the former "The Voice" contestant who's signed to Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine's 222 Records label, and PJ Morton, who's been keeping Carmichael's keyboard chair warm during his absence.

"I think it's gonna be a great show," Valentine predicts. "It's going to be awesome to go on after (Clarkson) every night because that's gonna really force us to bring it. I like it when there's a great performer right in front of us; it kinda lights a fire under our ass. On this last run we had Neon Trees and Tyler Glenn out there doing his full Freddie Mercury, and I think it pushed Adam to reach deeper ever night. I know Kelly will force that, too."

Maroon 5 is also planning a European tour later this year before it wraps up the cycle for "Overexposed."

Adam Levine Says 'Maroon 5 Is a Circus'

Adam Levine talked with Xpose Entertainment about the Honda Civic Tour and different changes on the tour

Adam Levine says Maroon 5 are "like a travelling circus" on tour. The band is set to headline this year's Honda Civic Tour in August and opened up about what fans can expect when they hit the stage. The group doesn't alter performances too much between different towns, preferring to save changes for new tours.

"Well it's actually quite cool because we are doing two American tours in one year which is great. Each tour is its own statement, and we bring that statement to each town, a bit like a travelling circus, with the same tricks every night," frontman Adam explained in an official video about the tour.

"But then at the end of the tour we don't ever want to repeat ourselves, so that's when we make new changes and throw different songs in there." Maroon 5 follow a strict regime before going on the road. It's different to the rock 'n' roll way of life people might expect from bands on tour.

"[We prepare] by getting in shape both vocally and physically," he added. "It's the opposite of what you'd think, we start working out and eating healthy. There's a lot of cardio vascular activity involved jumping around on stage every night."

At the weekend, Adam appeared at a question and answer session in connection with his role as a mentor on US TV show The Voice. The singer addressed the controversial "I hate this country" remark he made during the last season of the US singing talent show. "Everyone makes mistakes. If your intentions are good and someone misunderstands you, regardless of what the scenario is, I think people can see through stupid media hype. No offense," he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "I think that as long as you allow yourself to be who you are, you can't really defend every single thing you say, and you can't worry about saying the wrong thing, you just have to say what you're going to say and stand behind it."

Maroon 5 Makes It On Billboard's Hot 100 Songs of All Time

Adam Levine, Elvis Presley, and Usher hold the hottest songs in Billboard history.
Maroon 5's reggae-inspired hit "One More Night" spent 9 weeks atop the Hot 100 in 2012, becoming the 91st biggest song in Hot 100 history

When Billboard introduced weekly music charts in 1940, there were sales charts and there were airplay charts. These separate charts measuring the popularity of singles continued going their separate ways until Aug. 4, 1958, when Billboard introduced the first chart that blended sales and airplay data. Named the "Hot 100," it has continued to this day, known around the world for being the definitive U.S. singles weekly report. As someone once said, "It ain't No. 1 until it's No. 1 in Billboard."

In celebration of the 55th anniversary of the Hot 100, here is an updated list of the top 100 songs in the tally's history, ranked in order of chart performance -- which we are counting down, 10 per day, until the full list is uncovered. This all-time chart was first compiled for the Hot 100's 50th anniversary; in the five years that have passed, a dozen songs that charted between 2008-2013 have jumped onto the top 100. Come along as we reveal all the songs that made the list.

Behati Prinsloo Talks About Engagement with Adam Levine

Behati Prinsloo tells Entertainment Tonight about her engagement & more

Adam Levine is officially off the market. The 34-year-old Maroon 5 frontman proposed to his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend Behati Prinsloo. That’s right, in a whirlwind spur-of-the-moment proposal, the former bachelor made the ultimate commitment to the girl he had dumped earlier this spring.

On July 17, Behati was spotted showing off her engagement ring with friends in New York City, and in an interview with ET Canada, she even gave some details on the engagement.

“I am so happy and excited and still can’t believe it’s true!” the Victoria’s Secret model told the site. “It was a one-knee thing! It was serious, it was very old school!”

The Namibian beauty called the ring “perfect” and said that for now the couple will be “just celebrating with our friends and family.”

Personally we’re shocked by this spontaneous engagement, especially considering the fact that Adam and Danish model Nina Agdal were together earlier this summer and were spotted out as recently as July 4th weekend.

Adam Levine Talks About Honda Civic Tour with Ryan Seacrest

Adam Levine and Ryan Seacrest in 2013.
Adam Levine calls in to Ryan Seacrest's radio show to talk about the Hollywood Bowl show on the Honda Civic Tour this fall

Adam’s not too excited for his final show. Why? He tells On Air with Ryan Seacrest it’s ”the friends and family show and that’s both the most beautiful thing ever and a total nightmare.” Adam jokes that every member of his family and his friends hit him up for tickets to the show, so “I turn my phone off in the morning because otherwise it’s like a disaster.”

But one thing he won’t be turning off is his memory. Adam reveals: ”One thing I like to do is whenever something is coming to an end and you’re on that stage … it’s really cool to take a mental photograph of it and just take a deep breath and let it all in when you’re up there.” To get your own mental photograph of it and just take a deep breath and let it all in when you’re up there.”

Adam Levine Engaged to Behati Prinsloo: A Hoax or the Truth?

Sources say Adam Levine is now getting married to Behati Prinsloo

At around 6:00 PM EST today, rumors stuck the web that singer and songwriter Adam Levine had engaged Victoria's Secret model and long time girlfriend Behati Prinsloo. The first of the sources sprouted from E! Online, a celebrity news outlet, in which other sources such as Gossip Cop, People Magazine, and US Weekly have taken to confirm.

However, is this enough for long time Maroon 5 and Adam Levine fans to just believe that the 'Voice' coach is actually getting married? To his ex girlfriend?

"The Voice judge Adam Levine is engaged to Victoria's Secret angel Behati Prinsloo, the musician's rep confirms to E! News, adding that the star popped the question over the weekend in Los Angeles", said a newsletter from E! Online's co-dependant writer Bruna Nessif.

The singer's rep released a statement today, saying, "Adam Levine and his girlfriend Behati Prinsloo are excited to announce they are engaged to be married," adding, "The couple recently reunited and Adam proposed this weekend in Los Angeles."

Do you believe that Adam Levine is wedding Behati Prinsloo?

Tony Lucca Talks About 'New EP' Out Tomorrow

'Voice' alum & 222 Records signer talks about his new EP album and his journey through music

Tony Lucca published a blog post on his official Tumblr page this afternoon about his inspirations and his long journey through making music. He explains how it was working with Adam Levine and being inspired by his past, present, and future.

Lucca will release his new EP album 'With the Whole World Watching' tomorrow on iTunes Store.

You can read his note here:

so, tomorrow’s the big day. well, it’s one of them. the new EP comes out on iTunes. can’t lie, I’m pretty stoked about this one. apparently, they just played a clip of the video on E! News. how cool! yeah. it’s fixing to be a pretty big deal, this release. it’s been a pretty interesting road in getting here. after all the hype of having been on The Voice, the questions about working with Adam Levine, let alone all the Mickey Mouse Club nostalgia/controversy. wow. once again it all comes down to some songs, on a record, with a release date, some PR, as much social media as folks can stomach, and fingers tightly crossed that it takes on the kind of ‘life of its own’ you always dream about.

at the very least, releases are good mile markers. they allow you to reset the clock and clear the slate, if you will. they become a way of recalling the various chapters you’ve persevered through. you can think back to girlfriends, hairstyles, cars you might have owned, they all tell your story in some strange, abstract sequence. and then there’s the records. the songs, the inspirations, the stories. they play out like a subconscious soundtrack, an old mix tape or scrapbook you thumb through every time you move.

this one’s got me reflecting on the range of emotions I’ve been through in the past couple years since my last release. it’s got me hopeful in a new way and proud in a way that trumps any and all expectations. I really dig this EP. I’d like to think I’d be a fan of it even if I wasn’t invested. my kids dig it, I suppose that says something. they’ve become some rather tough critics as of late. that damn pop radio is really getting to their brains. mine too? I don’t know.

hope you all dig the new tunes. can’t wait to see as many of you out there as possible!

happy release day, y’all!

PJ Morton Releases 'Work It Out' Music Video

Maroon 5 keyboardist releases new music video for "Work It Out"

Maroon 5 keyboardist PJ Morton is a sterling talent in his own right. Signed as an R&B-cum-pop artist to Young Money Entertainment, Morton released "New Orleans" in May, and HuffPost Entertainment is exclusively debuting his latest video, this time for "Work It Out."

"New Orleans" features a bevy of big name talent, including Stevie Wonder, who provided the harmonica on "Only One," Maroon 5's Adam Levine and Busta Rhymes. But on "Work It Out," it's only Morton doing his thing -- and fighting for his life.

“'Work It Out' is about that moment in a relationship where it's your last attempt," Morton said in a statement to HuffPost. "It's where your girl is totally fed up with you and you're giving it that one last try at getting her back. I felt that the relationship scenario where you kiss and make up has been done a million times over so I wanted it to come from another place. We took it a step further and made it so that she's so fed up that she's ready to literally kill me and I'm begging for my life. Travis Schneider is the director. He came up with the concept!”

Morton is currently headlining his own tour, but fans can catch him opening for (and then performing with) Maroon 5 on their upcoming tour in September. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Adam Levine Denies Rumors Over Departing with Maroon 5

Adam Levine shuts down the long thread of rumors indicating that 'The Voice' is overtaking Maroon 5's career

Over the course of the past week, news outlets and other sources have said that singer and songwriter Adam Levine is indeed parting ways from pop rock band Maroon 5 to pursue a passion for acting and coaching on NBC's hit television show The Voice. Many fans were recently left wondering about the fate of their favorite band. Despite reports that Levine and the band are having some difficulties behind-the-scenes, apparently these were just tall tales designed to sell magazines at supermarkets. The rumors were shot down over this weekend when the 'Voice' coach and singer told Star Magazine that they were "absolutely false."

“The band was set to finish their next record and tour but had to rework everything around Adam’s schedule filming ‘The Voice,’” a rep said for Gossip Cop's website.

There is currently no reason to curse the singer’s name for breaking up the band. For the moment, Maroon 5 is apparently safe and sound.

In other Adam Levine news, Blake Shelton recently joked about the singer’s health-conscious lifestyle. According to the country music star, Levine doesn’t drink nearly as much alcohol as he probably should.

“I get frustrated with Adam because, to me, rock stars are supposed to be drunk all the time. But he’s very healthy. He takes care of himself. And it drives me crazy, because I want him to be more like me. Drunk all the time,” Shelton joked.

Last week, the band scored another top 20 hit on the Hot 100 with "Love Somebody."

On other chart notes, "Love Somebody" slides up from Nos. 20-17 on the Adult Contemporary Songs chart, moves up 5-4 on the Adult Pop Songs chart, climbs up 14-11 on the Billboard Digital Songs chart, dives in to the top 10 on the Radio Songs chart at No. 9, and debuts at No. 34 on the Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

The band's 2012 No. 2 peaking fourth studio album Overexposed jumps up the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart this week moving up from Nos. 46-36. The album has not yet left the top 50 positions on the chart since its initial release in the U.S. last June.

The nationwide tour will kick off in less than a month on August 1 in Maryland Heights, Missouri at the famous Verizon Wireless Amphitheater with special guests Kelly Clarkson and Rozzi Crane. The tour will extend until October 6 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California.

Other musical guests include PJ Morton who is currently Maroon 5's keyboardist replacing former member Jesse Carmichael and singer Tony Lucca who has worked with Adam Levine on NBC's hit show The Voice and has been signed under Levine's freshly published record label, 222 Records and is releasing his new album this month titled 'With the Whole World Watching.'

Next year, Maroon 5 will be going overseas in support of their latest album 'Overexposed' in Europe and the United Kingdom with pop singer Robin Thicke, who will be releasing his album in the U.K. on July 9th titled 'Blurred Lines.'

Maroon 5 Launches Custom Honda Civic Sweepstakes

Adam Levine and James Valentine launch Maroon 5 custom Honda Civic vehicles

Brushed in the M5 signature color scheme, the Civic Si Coupe stands in tribute to the pop-rock powerhouse. Frontman Adam Levine says the goal was to capture the Maroon 5 iconography that expresses both the band's essence and its live experience and channel it into their design.
The exterior is reminiscent of the Maroon 5 logo – expertly swathed in the L.A. quintet's signature black, red and white color palette, making a clean yet bold statement. The passenger door is enhanced by the signatures of Adam Levine and James Valentine. A red "5" artfully straddles the hood.
